'Culture of One' - 2002-2003
A body of work looking at cloning, advertising, notions of camp and formal repetition.
Perhaps responding to work I was then doing on Calvin Klein advertising
campaigns I was interested in how maybe a Warholian formal repetition could
become a notional branding, something that could then have slight
variations: the computer modelling program I was using came with default
'ethnic' settings, a slider dial to mix and match with. This seemed
impassively and coolly suited to both a corporate method of communication
and say the blank but targeted aesthetics of contemporary ad campaigns
(Gap, Benetton), both fascinatingly empty and propagandist.
